Dr. Syed Naveed is a Hematology and Oncology Specialist Physician at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), Abu Dhabi, and a leading innovator in applying artificial intelligence to hematologic diagnostics and transplant care. He has developed two end-to-end AI platforms in Abu Dhabi: Leuko-AI, a diagnostic model that classifies leukemia subtypes from peripheral blood smears—recipient of multiple innovation awards at the Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week (ADGHW), the Arab Hospitals Federation Awards, and the UAE PureLab Conference—and GVHD-Intel 1.0, a real-time machine-learning framework predicting graft-versus-host disease in stem-cell transplant recipients. The latter, funded by the Department of Health Abu Dhabi, will be presented at ASH 2025 in Orlando, Florida, during its multicenter validation phase.
These initiatives are conducted in collaboration with the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), Khalifa University, and the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC), Jordan. Dr. Naveed holds advanced certifications in data science and machine learning from Vanderbilt University, Imperial College London, and DeepLearning.AI.
With several new AI-driven projects underway, he continues to lead regional efforts to integrate interpretable, clinically grounded AI into precision hematology and oncology across the Middle East.
